Throughout history, the concept of holistic healing has been the mainstay of most healing modalities the world over. It was not until the 1900s that the practice of allopathic medicine took root. Holistic healing is about healing the whole person - at the level of body, mind, and spirit.
At the level of body, when health is compromised, it is described as “dis-ease” - a condition where the body no longer functions well in physical and bio-chemical modes of operation. This can be affected by or affect, the health of a human being on the mental and physical levels as well. Different modalities such as massage, chiropractic, acupuncture, and others are now common practices.
The mental aspect of holistic healing is done with a variety of different methods as well. Positive thinking, visualization, discovering hidden belief systems, and affirmations, can bring forth favorable circumstances and move a person to greater health overall. Also, different methods will serve to uncover a broad range of outcomes that can potentially be therapeutic and health-promoting, or they can uncover modes of mental operation that can be detrimental and destructive. In this instance the examination and the identification of these destructive tendencies provides the catalyst to move beyond limiting and self-sabotaging programming and create recovery of health and happiness. The connection of body and mind work together without separation. Although there can be serious alterations with the use of synthetic chemicals that produce short-term positive results, the long-term effects are what really need to be examined.
